Vancouver is sprawling with suburbs filled with mixtures of races from Canadians to Asians. Do you know where you fit in? Here’s a quick feature guide on the different neighborhoods all over Vancouver, broken down to its stereotypes. Whether you’re in the market for a house or condo unit, this guide is for you.

Senior citizens may find this edition’s neighborhood in focus to their liking: Kerrisdale. The real estate market heavily markets condos and homes for sale for people 60 years old and above. Students of the University of British Columbia, located to the west next to Kerrisdale, also find the neighborhood a good place to live in.

The story surrounding Kerrisdale is a good example of how some words tend to be corrupted over time. Originally, the neighborhood was named Kerry’s Dale, whose namesake was from Kerrydale in Garlock, Scotland. William McKinnon, a Scottish woman who settled in the area around the neighborhood’s foundation, named it after her Scottish home, which was Kerrydale.

Over the years, some people got the spelling of the neighborhood wrong, leading to Kerrisdale. Nevertheless, the city of Vancouver has grown to accept it.

Kerrisdale has become a thriving place known to attract young professionals and workers seeking high-paying jobs, judging by the above-average household income in the area. The neighbourhood is home to a high concentration of lawyers, doctors, and professors.
